You have to understand that a lot of the decisions made by Governments and its Agencies are made with money in mind $$$$$!!!!. It is true that prostate cancer is pretty uncommon between 40 and 50 (tell Robbie Flower that!!) and it is costly exercise to pick up those few. The Government are prepared to lose a few in order to save some health dollars which they will say can be best spent elsewhere. But what if you were in those few!!! And yes, you may have some false positives which will be stressful for those affected and they may be put through unnecessary procedures such as biopsies.

Health Tip: There is a bit of a controversy going on at the moment as it has been recommended by certain groups that PSA (Blood test for prostate cancer) be started at 40 for all males. I tend to agree…. But….. The College of GP’s and the Government have said that this shouldn’t happen! Confused??? Read more

Health Tip: It is imperative that you have a fitness goal to aim for. I train for the 4.5km Pier to Perrignon swim which is my Grand Final of Ocean Swims. I was pleased this year to Read more

It is with great pleasure that the President and the Committee of the Marcellin Bald Eagles (Leaders of the Flock) announce that Mark “Heebie” Graham is to be the Captain for the season 2010. After an illustrious career with Hawthorn/Richmond and Old Xavs, Heebie has fitted in brilliantly with the Baldies and we look forward to a long and successful association with him. Congratulations Mark!!!!

Dear Baldies,

Eleven Baldies attended the EOS trip to Kennett River on the week-end and a good time was had by all with a lot of highlights. They were…

  • The Weather – fantastic (see right)001
  • The trip down with a quiet stop along the way at the Pacific Hotel Lorne and the Wye river Pub
  • Friday Night – In the words of Franki Valli – Oh what a night!!! I peaked at 1.30am but the strains of the Bald Eagles theme song could be heard at 3am!!!
  • The “Nude Up Sessions” – not a pretty sight
  • The Beach walk Saturday morning with the touch footy and Wilson the cricket ball which had to be saved by me before it floated back to Tom Hanks.
  • The magnificent breakfasts – thanks Beatts & Ricey the chef
  • The Birds – not the female variety but the King Parrot, rosellas etc who joined in with us (see below)
  • Okie getting sunburnt lying in bed that morning because he couldn’t pull the blind down
  • The number of times that Bird told us that Lyn was pregnant – congratulations by the way!!
  • The Cherry Ripes provided by Heathy
  • Beatts falling in love with the pizza maker and the wide variety of pizzas he made including a Cherry Ripe Pizza!!
  • Report of a landslide on the Great Ocean Road which turned out to be Heebie’s Dan McGrew over the edge after he called out to Juan Faggio Fletch to pull over
  • The afternoon on the punt at the Ocean Hotel in Apollo Bay
  • The remarkable last race Get out Stakes win by Beatts and myself to reimburse the coffers by $400 when we were down to our last penny.
  • The number of high fives Beatts gave when Lady Lynette ($35 on the nose) pipped my horse ($40 a place) – they paid $6 and $4 respectively
  • Okie, Heebie and Bird nuding out in the car on the way back to KR from Apollo Bay. I was thinking how to explain it to Police if we got pulled over
  • The number of times  AC/DC’s “You shook me all night long”  got played on the way back from Apollo Bay
  • The evening meal Saturday night at the Wye River Pub
  • The robust AGM chaired by secretary Dilly
  • Heebies description of the BOF incident and his Poetry of the Scrotum display
  • The “earlier” night had Saturday night
  • Midge Dilly and Kelly Fletch on the KR waves the next morning – Dilly fitting into my wet suit
  • Hyphe and Stubbles riding their bikes to Apollo and back Sunday morning
  • Okie and Bird running Grey river and back
  • The magnificent brunch had before leaving027

Overall, a great time had by all.

The sea-gull hitting, Brodders goal cracked a mention in Daryl Timm’s Confidential Section in the Herald-Sun this morning.

Hi all,

I need your help, possibly to restore my sanity (as many of you know I did say never again!), or more importantly to raise $4000!

Yes, three mates and I have once again entered the Oxfam Trailwalk. This years event takes place on April 16th, 17th and 18th of April. We have to complete a 100km course, starting at Wheelers Hill, going over the Dandenong Ranges and finishing at Warburton in 48 hours. We are hoping to finish inside of 24 hours.

The team consists of
Steve Pozzan, Michael Day (both ex-Baldies), Michael Duncan (Harv’s brother-in-law) and myself. In order to begin the event, we have to raise a minimum of $4000. If you would like to sponsor us, there are two ways you can help. Firstly, follow the link: www.oxfam.org.au/trailwalker/melbourne/team/251  or alternatively go to www.oxfam.org.au/trailwalker/melbourne and enter our team number, team name or one of our names into the search (see below), then click the DONATE button.

Team Name PFJ

Team Number 251

Walker Name David Fletcher

While donating online, you can choose if you would like your name and donation amount to appear and you can even leave us a message of support. All donations over $2 are tax deductible. We can also accept cheques written out to Oxfam Australia, and we can issue you with a tax receipt for this from our Donation Receipt Books.

The second way for you to help us reach the target, is to purchase specially commissioned wine. Once again, we have teamed up with the award winning Yarra Valley winery, Traintrak. As those of you who purchased wine in 2008 will attest, the wine is outstanding. Please refer to the attachment for an order form, and email or ring me to place your order. We have been given a limited release of the varieties, so please get back to me as soon as possible on 0422 307 145. You can send a cheque, give me cash or pay by direct debit (which is the easiest). Account details are as follows:

Name; David Fletcher

BSB: 733 073

Account number: 75 4514

My team PFJ are hoping to raise well over the $4000 to help some of the world’s poorest people.  Our fundraising enables Oxfam to continue their work including projects that give care to AIDS victims and orphans in Zimbabwe and Southern Africa, that educate people in Laos on good farming techniques and that improve Indigenous health and wellbeing in regional Australia.   Here are some real examples about donation levels:

·         $20 can provide families in East Timor with vegetable seeds and trees, increasing nutrition and market opportunities;

·         $50 will buy 10 sacks of seeds to enable Malawian farming families to grow more drought tolerant crops.

·         $100 can provide medicines to a village in Laos to treat common illness and prevent disease

Thank-you for your help,

Cheers,

Fletch
